Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the threat to Europe’s energy independence, the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, the resumption of shale gas drilling in the United States… There are many events that are bringing the geopolitical issue of energy back to the forefront, an issue on which global climate governance is deeply dependent. At a time when the targets for keeping global warming below 1.5°C seem unattainable, this interconnection between climate and energy is becoming more crucial than ever. This course aims to introduce students to these geopolitical issues and provide them with the tools to analyse the current global situation. It will be divided into three parts, focusing respectively on global climate governance, the geopolitics of energy, and the new geopolitical challenges that have recently emerged on the international stage.
